“Resumes are dead. People don’t see it yet, but it’s clearly there. There is no sense of having a resume, because what’s a resume? It’s a piece of paper that has no interactivity, no history, no context.
Resumes today have evolved into profiles and the difference between a resume and a profile is that a profile has a context around it. It shows, ‘oh, I worked for 5 years at this company’ and I can click on this company to see what this company does and if I know anybody from this company and how big they are. So I get a perspective and I get your social footprint, I get your Twitter, I get your LinkedIn, I get your Facebook, and I understand who you are. In a resume I don’t.
In a resume you are a piece of paper; in a profile, you are a human being; and a human being is what I want to hire, not a piece of paper. So I think the use of resumes in hiring is just going to drop down as we as a society become more and more comfortable with the use of rich profiles and transparency in social networks.”
